ENDLESS WALKING AT MT. UGO

August 20-23, 2009 Location: Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya / Itogon, Benguet

This is my first climb with the group (BAROC) and we are headed to Mt.Ugo taking the Kayapa-Tinongdan Traverse trail. A total of 34 participants decided to appreciate again the mountains.
Our meeting place is at Victory Liner (Kamuning), the bus is set to leave at 11:45 Thursday night bounded off to Tuguegarao. We will drop at Bambang to wait for the chartered jeepneys that will take us to Kayapa town proper. At Kayapa, we had our breakfast and registration at the police station. Our trek started at 9:00 AM Friday covering four hours of steep trails. At 1:00 PM, we are now in Indupit Village, time to refill our trail waters.

The next terrain is the endless plain road at the side of mountains. We had a first taste of night trekking, our arrival time at the camp site was 8:30 PM. Some had an early lights out but for some, we ended our night 12MN with a taste of "Tapoy", locally made rice wine.

As early as of 4:30AM, most of people are awake to prepare for food. We left the campsite at around 7:45AM to begin our assault to the summit. We reached the top at 10:00AM.  After the picture taking, the final group descended at around 10:30AM. We had our lunch along the trail.

As per original IT, we are scheduled to have another night camp but all agreed to push and head to Tinongdan barangay hall. It was indeed a hard push because of the non-stop downslopes and again we experienced night trekking.

At 11:00PM Saturday , we arrived safely at the rented house in Baguio. Half of the group are staying while us are set to leave early morning. Unfortunately, we were not complete during our early dinner/breakfast in Jay-j's Inasal, I believe it was around 1:30AM.

At 3:00AM Sunday, I am off to Manila then after sleeping on the bus for more than 5 hours, back to where it all started, Cubao...:-)  Till the next climb...!\
