SIESTA TIME AT PICO DE LORO

December 19-20, 2009 Location: Ternate, Cavite

A supposed to be scheduled-climb at Mt.Daguldol composed of four happy hikers was changed to an unexpected Pico De Loro adventure. But now, we will be joined by new happy hiker. Since we are first timers going to this mountain, we printed the itineraries from the internet and made some communication to the people who had climbed this mountain before.

At around 3:30 PM, we have reached DENR at Magnetic Hill, Ternate. At 4:00 PM, we are set to start our hike. An unexpected turnaround, we were lost in the woods, :-D. We missed the exact trail and went upwards to the tree-planting area. But nevertheless, it was fun time at the trail and some picture taking. The result is now we need track back and get ready for another night trek experience.

Our official start time is now 6:00 PM. Our experience went pretty well. We simply rolled the streets of Pico and park whenever we need rest, we stop. We did not push ourselves to reach the campsite at a designated time since we need pace ourselves with the new happy hiker (The Intelligent Boy-JP).

At 9:45 PM, we reached campsite and it seems the open area is flooded with mountaineers who are doing their socials and rest. We settled to a quieter place inside the bamboo covered area. Our menu for tonight, adobong palaka, pork with mixed vegetables, dinengdeng, and binagis. It was almost midnight when we had our dinner.

This mountain is one of the places that have forested trail and chilled campsite. You can have siesta all day long which we did. We were the last group to break camp at 1:00 PM. With our bags packed, we headed to visit the summit and some went to the extreme, Loro’s Peak.

Our downhill approach was fast; a 2 ½ hours slide up to DENR was amazing. Time to freshen up and at 6:30 PM we headed to Saulog terminal. At Baclaran, we had our dinner at Lydia’s Lechon.  More climb of this type next year!
