FINDING A SHADE IN MOUNT MARAMI

January 23-24, 2010 - Location: Cavite

Forty-nine members and invitees joined the alpha climb of BAROC this year in Mount Marami situated in Magallanes/Maragondon, Cavite. Straight from the office, we headed to JAM Buendia bus station to join the group and take road trip going to the jump-off site using the rented bus. It was indeed a field-trip feeling seeing the outskirts of Cavite.

After the exercise and a silent prayer, we are now ready to start the trek at 9AM. It was a sunny day and the tree-less terrain added some hardship resulting to more rest time. It took us seven (7) hours to reach the campsite which was the intended timeframe.

Some went to explore the summit after setting their tents which will take 15-20 minutes from the campsite. The view is magnificent seeing the sunset and some mountains of Cavite (Pico De Loro) and Batangas (Talamitan and Batulao). After picture taking and a quiet time at the top, we headed back to the campsite armed with headlamps.

After a nice dinner, it was time for the socials but since three of us had no sleep yet, we did not extend up to midnight. We woke up at around 6AM and prepared to cook for breakfast.

Armed with less-water and patience, we approach the downhill path. It took us four (4) hours to reach the point of origin. At the store, we rehydrate ourselves and then had lunch before taking the flight at 3PM going back to Manila.

At 5:30PM, we reached the station and there the group part ways. We went straight to Edsa Shrine to attend mass. Then we had dinner at Nasi Lemak Authentic in Robinsons Galeria. I like their Honey Glazed spareribs.  What can I say, I love my new tent (will test it next time in the rain)..:-)..and what else, I like the Ginger juice very much. I believe I had four glasses. :-D  Maraming Salamat Happy Hikers sa Pagsama!...More Power!
