MT. APO BONGOLANON - KIDAPAWAN TRAIL

April 26-29, 2009 - Location: Magpet and Kidawapan North Cotabato

Our arrival in Kidapawan was late because of an unexpected 4-hours delay of the Davao-bound flight on a Saturday morning. Thanks to my cousin that most of the needed supplies had been bought the day before.

Sunday morning of April 26 came and we need to finalize the supplies and pack our things for Mt.Apo climb using Bongolanon as jump-off and then head down using Kidapawan trail.

At 10 AM, we headed to the market to buy the last needed supplies and straight to Bongolanon, Magpet. On our way, we were blessed with some heavy rain but it did stop when we reach halfway the route.

The climb will start at Tawsuvan falls but due to unexpected delay again, we will be moving at the roughly 1:00 PM. The Bongolanon trail is dubbed as the rainforest marker.

The expedition was really the extreme of all climbs that we had. Total of 4 days and 3 nights in the mountain, 3 days of rain plus the hard rain the night on the summit camp; Total of 3 days night trekking; Limatik (blood leeches) on the first day. More than 20 little creatures have a taste of our blood;

The trail corresponds with inclined steep trails, mud all the way, tree branches, and portion of 87% degrees, rope and ladder exercise, river crossing and a lot more indescribable.

This is my second climb in Mt.Apo; the last was 10 years ago using another trail. It was an unforgettable involvement together with these courageous friends. Though we encountered some difficulties along the way, we were very thankful that we had arrived safely to our destination.  An eye-opener to future climbs.
